About Aaliyah Mohammed
Faith and mental health aren't separate paths. For many of my Muslim clients, they're the same path walked at the same time.
Aaliyah Mohammed is a Registered Psychotherapist practicing in Ottawa with a focus on faith-aligned mental health support for Muslim families. She has ten years of clinical experience.
Born in Mogadishu and raised in Ottawa, Aaliyah practices in English, Somali, and Arabic. Her clients span the Somali, broader East African, and global Muslim communities in the National Capital Region. Her practice integrates Islamic spiritual frameworks with evidence-based therapeutic modalities — when clients want that integration.
Aaliyah holds advanced training in trauma-informed practice, culturally adapted cognitive behavioural therapy, and Islamic counselling frameworks. She works with individuals, couples, and family-systems work.
Session formats: In-person at the Ottawa office (50-min sessions) and virtual. Multilingual sessions available (English, Somali, Arabic). Insurance billing supported.
How my background shapes my work
For many of my clients, prayer is part of their mental health practice. Sermons their imam delivers shape their psychological framework. I don't ask clients to bracket faith at the therapy door — I make space for it in the room.
