About Anita Raja
Two decades of doing this work, and the lesson stays the same: South Asian families heal in their own language, on their own timing. My job is to make space for both.
Anita Raja is a Registered Psychotherapist with over two decades of clinical work practicing in Mississauga. Her focus is depression, family systems, and the space between generations in South Asian — particularly Punjabi — communities.
Born in Punjab and raised in the GTA, Anita practices in English and Punjabi. Her clients span three generations of South Asian families, and she often works with multiple family members across her caseload (with appropriate clinical boundaries). The depth of her community connection shapes the relational quality of her practice.
Anita integrates psychodynamic depth work, family-systems therapy, and culturally adapted depression treatment. She maintains a stable, mature caseload and is selective about new client intake to preserve depth of work.
Session formats: In-person at the Mississauga office (50-min sessions) and virtual. Bilingual English/Punjabi available. Insurance billing supported.
What I bring to the practice
When I started this work in 2003, there were three South Asian therapists in the GTA that I knew of. The depression in our communities was already there — we just didn't have anywhere to take it. Twenty years later, the work is still building the path others can walk.
